Just Plain Organized was never something that I had in mind to do. Don't get me wrong, I do like to organize and be organized as much as possible. The idea of a home/personal planner isn't mine either. In fact, that idea has been around for a long, long time. I have long been a reader of Organizedhome.com and OrganizedChristmas.com, both of them use a planner of a similar type.
The story behind my project is simple. And I have my kids to thank for this.
I was talking to a good friend of mine, Angela Mooer about kids. How and why they do things. And especially the older they get the things they do.She offered to lend me a book called Parenting with Loving and Logic. I read it in less than 2 days. I couldn't believe how wrong I was about parenting. First it opened my eyes to being a helicopter parent. Ya know the ones, always hovering, leaping into motion as soon as the kid needs his/her nose wiped. The book showed me that I was sending the signal to my kids that they could not handle their own lives. Whoops!! So true!! So I once again sprang into action, this time for the Mom. I decided I needed to cut those apron strings and set my chicks free from the nest. Then I thought about all the important paperwork I had of theirs. Birth certs, social security cards, tax paperwork just a ton of stuff of THEIRS! Hmmm, what to do. Now I could put all their stuff in individual boxes with the three page letter I wrote explaining I would no longer be a helicopter parent. Yea, that would work.
Then it hit me. One last event of my helicopterdness towards the kids. I am going to make them a planner like the one I use. But I thought the one I use is pretty simple, not much too it and if I am going to toss my babies into the wild world of adulthood I want them more ready and organized than that! So I become a search fool for forms and ideas to better prepare their planners.
What I came up with was a mixture of lots of information from the Internet. I made the planners for each of the kids and included a dvd of all of the family pix. Now, my daughter, I figured she would love it, with a husband and 4 kids, oh yea she needs this. My oldest son, he tossed it into a closet - important paperwork and all. Expected, he isn't into this kind of thing. My youngest oldest son is using his a little bit. I have actually sold a few of these through word of mouth.
Like I said the home/personal planner is not my idea. The idea to make them for each of my kids was mine. Folks that see them like them. Each planner is handmade/homemade. Nothing expensive, nothing to fancy, just plain organized like the name says. Go check some of the forms out. http://www.justplainorganized.com let me know your thoughts. Maybe you or someone you know could use a little help keeping organized?
